What it involved

This was a quick and enjoyable project which only required me to transform a website design which was created by a third party designer into a HTML mockup with accompanying Javascript functionality. The design features several different types of pages with vibrant and contrasting colours, and a straight forward and simple to use navigation system.

The HTML mockup was then handed over to another developer who converted it into a Wordpress template and setup the rest of the system.

What it involved

This website has been a long time coming. I’ve had the intention for a couple of years now, but there was always something else that I had to spend my time on. I’ve worked on it on and off for a few months and have finally reached the stage where I am happy enough to put in the public domain. It’s not finished and probably never will be from a technical point of view.

I’ve created this website for a few reasons :

• To help fellow developers get around problems that I have also encountered and had to get around. There have been many many occasions where I’ve spent hours or days trying to figure out how to get past something, and then stumbled across a blog that gives me the answer. It’s about time that I try to be that blog for someone else!
• To showcase my work
• It’s a great opportunity to learn more about new technologies and techniques

I could have very easily used an open source solution to do this in just a few days. But I like design and coding and it’s what I do for a living, so doing it all from scratch seemed like the only path I could take.

What it involved

Bubble baby had an existing ecommerce website which was a bespoke application developed by another company. Although the website worked reasonably well, they wanted to add new features and functionality and to correct some defects. It was decided that Zen Cart, an open source ecommerce solution, would be the best solution for their new website. A customised template design and many feature rich plugins were used to create this advanced but simple to use online shop.

What it involved

This website acts as an informational website for Jerry Harmon, a songwriter and storyteller who tours internationally. It has a blog for his latest news, some sample video and audio from his performances, and an online shop for purchasing his CDs. It was built with Wordpress so the scope of the project was limited to installation, configuration, and customisation with a custom theme and addon modules. It also has tight integration with social media services such as Facebook and AddThis.

Appalachian Artist Management

What it involved

The goal of this project was to automate the processing of online orders for flight simulation addon software, and to distribute, manage and authenticate serials for them. The client develops and sells software, and needed to reduce the workload required to run their business on a day to day basis. They also wanted to implement piracy protection within the installer, and to be able to associate each serial with a customer for traceability and accountability. Having seen the Eiresim system in use, the client contacted them and was referred me.

The difference with this project was that almost all of the orders were received from Simmarket, a leading simulation software seller. This meant that the Eiresim application would need to be extended to serve the Simmarket eCommerce API. With the help from and in collaboration with Simmarket, this was implemented for both Eiresim and Latin VFR.

Orders are processed without any intervention from administrators unless something in the order is inconsistent or incorrect. Administrators can then process it manually, or investigate using informative alerts, emails and logged messages. The core requirements were:

• Simmarket and Paypal API integration
• The ability to manually create, edit and disable orders and serials, and to be able to leave comments and history
• The ability to add, edit and delete products.
• Automatically import serials for a product
• Setup Factory installer script for online serial authentication
• Secure authentication and verification of received orders
• Order processing records and history for a paper trail audit
